Burgundy /​Franche-Comté — Saône

Pon­tailler-sur-Saône : freely nav­i­gate the Saône or Less­er Saône, where there are few locks. The Bur­gundy canal will take you to the canalised stretch of the riv­er Doubs, from where you’ll go on to cross the Marne-Saône canal. These lands are rich in his­to­ry and one of France’s top gas­tro­nom­ic des­ti­na­tions. You’ll also dis­cov­er an alter­na­tive nat­ur­al set­ting as you take in rivers bor­dered by reeds, oaks and wil­lows, from which grey herons, king­fish­ers and ducks fly. In addi­tion, your cruise will be a great oppor­tu­ni­ty to sam­ple the local cui­sine : “pôc­house” in Bresse (a kind of bouil­l­abaisse made with fresh­wa­ter fish), along with many oth­er spe­cial­i­ties, washed down with famous Bur­gundy wines.

Bresse bourguignonne — Seille

The Seille, a trib­u­tary of the Saône, is a beau­ti­ful riv­er flow­ing through the heart of Bresse Bour­guignonne, home to the famous Bresse chick­ens. Dis­cov­er the qui­et charm of its groves at the water’s edge, dot­ted with half-tim­bered hous­es. Final­ly, head to Louhans, a live­ly and pic­turesque town with its main avenue lined with 157 arcades and six­teenth cen­tu­ry facades. A famous farm­ers’ mar­ket is held here every Mon­day morning.
