A waterway cruise to Amiens, taking in the historic riches of Picardy

When you set off on your houseboat from our Long base, head east towards the prefecture of the Somme département. The town’s belfry will quickly become a landmark from the cockpit of your licence-free boat, although Amiens is also home to many other riches. With its impressive dimensions (145 metres in length, with 42-metre-high nave vaults), Cathédrale Notre Dame d’Amiens stands out as a gem of Gothic architecture. This building, erected between 1220 and 1288 and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site is still France’s largest church, so leave the comfort of your houseboat to explore its 7700 m².

From Amiens to the Bay of Somme : itineraries to personalise for an unforgettable waterway cruise

Don’t leave Amiens without embarking on one of the boats in the Saint Leu district, which will transport you to the hortillonnages, floating gardens that form one of the city’s emblems. Your Picardy waterway cruise will take you through the characteristic bocage of Northern France. And if you prefer to head west from our Long base you can take in the Bay of Somme. This great place for bird watching (don’t miss Marquenterre park) is sure to become one of the highlights of your waterway cruise. Navigate your way to Saint Valery sur Somme and stroll through the town’s picturesque streets, or cross the bay to enjoy all the entertainments that the town of Crotoy has to offer.
