Le Somail

Le Somail is a French ham­let, locat­ed in the Aude départe­ment in the region of Occ­i­tanie. The port of Somail was built in 1682 to act as a sleep­ing stage just after the con­struc­tion of the Canal du Midi.

There are var­i­ous build­ings dat­ing back to the con­struc­tion of the canal :

• the chapel
• the stone hump­back bridge
• the inn
• the ice house – the only remain­ing ruin of the Canal. This is a small vault­ed build­ing with a cir­cu­lar lay­out on two lev­els, sep­a­rat­ed by a floor.
