Our waterway cruises Ireland

Ireland, a land of legends to explore on a licence-free boat

Ireland – a land of legends and mysteries, but also a land of water, bathed in countless lakes and ponds and crossed by hundreds of kilometres of waterways. A dream country for an introduction to waterway tourism, where Les Canalous will receive you on one of the three bases we’ve built in its most picturesque region. At Carrick On ShannonBanagher or Bellanaleck, we’ll train you in how to captain your houseboat and also support you in preparing your itinerary for a personalised waterway cruise.

Welcome to the land of lakes ! Between Lower Lough Erne and Lough Derg, you’ll be able to enjoy all the attractions offered by these bodies of water. Let yourself be guided to the nautical bases, where you can indulge in swimming and all other possible water activities. Fishing enthusiasts will also find something to enjoy. A waterway cruise thus promises to satisfy everyone’s preferences – even fans of hiking and/or off-road cycling will appreciate the region’s many marked trails.

A waterway cruise to immerse yourself in Irish traditions

As you travel between two locks, one of the highlights of a waterway cruise, you’ll be able to moor your boat and stop to visit the region’s most emblematic locations. The monastic site of Devenish Island, in its isolated setting, or indeed the monastery of Clonmacnoise, are two of the must-sees during your Irish cruise. You’ll also enjoy strolling through the quaint streets of the villages you pass through and shouldn’t miss the chance to call in at some of Ireland’s famous pubs for a real immersion in Irish culture. Let yourself unwind as you explore the traditions and folklore of this really endearing country. Whether in pubs or restaurants, or on the deck of your houseboat, you’ll enjoy the traditional Irish Bannock bread, or let yourself be tempted by one of the Irish Pies that, made with beer, have secured the region’s reputation.

One of the main attractions of Upper Lough Erne is nevertheless the opportunity to navigate from island to island, and there are many of these on the lake. Don’t miss a visit to Devenish Island, where you can admire the old monastery of Saint Molaise.
Lough Key Forest

Lough Key Forest

On the south shore of Lough Key Lake, you can enjoy a walk through an enchanting forest: Lough Key Forest Park. This 320-hectare forest park guarantees you exceptional views of the water but also takes you through picturesque landscapes characteristic of the region. Don’t miss the opportunity to climb back aboard your houseboat and do some island hopping on the lake. There’s still a medieval fortress to admire on Cate Island.
